- Security
When choosing your self storage, be absolutely sure that the security is top notch. Good self storage facilities should be equipped with several security features including:
Fencing. The fence should surround the entire facility. Look for broken fence, or fence that is bent and has rust.
Security Cameras. Modern facilities should have security cameras focused on every angle. This includes cameras on the outside and inside of the buildings. Check to see if the office has a way of adequately monitoring these cameras.
Gate. What kind go gate does the facility have? Can anyone enter or does it require a specific pass code? Does is automatically shut behind you? It is important to know that you are as safe as the items you are storing once inside the facility. Especially after business hours.
- Customer Service
Customer service is becoming harder to find these days. Not wanting to deal with a grumpy manager can make life less fun, but great customer service can make your storage experience something to look forward to. Look for Staff and mangers who:
Dress Professionally. How the storage team present themselves speaks volumes on how they will care for your belongings. Look for good manners and a well spoken staff.
Knowledgable and Responsive. You want a quick and direct response. Stuttering around to give you the simplest of answers is never a good thing. Do they return your calls or text in a timely manner? You don’t want a manager that wont reach out when you are in need. - Pest Control
Rats and roaches can cause damage to your belongings, especially in standard non climate units. A good facility should:
Spray. Good managers will contract pest control professionals to visit regularly to stay ahead of potential pest invasion.
Rodent Deterrent. Actions should be taken to keep pest out of your unit. Such precautions include rat blocks and spraying the unit before renting it out. - Accessibility
Convenience is a priority for most. Busy lifestyles make it hard to visit during office hours, and no one wants to rent from a facility that leaves its gates open. Ask the manager if they have:
24/7 Access. Electronic gates make it easy to access your unit at anytime of the day while also keeping your belongings secure
